Take Action
The 89th Legislature adjourned on June 2, 2025, without a vote on prescriptive authority for psychologists. House Bill 5537 was heard in the House Public Health Committee and left pending; Senate Bill 2999 was referred to committee and not heard. The record of each bill, including its text and every action taken on it, is on Texas Legislature Online at those links. The 90th Legislature convenes on January 12, 2027, and bills for that session may be filed beginning November 9, 2026. Legislators and their staff form their views on an issue in the months before a session. Here is how you can help.
Contact Your Legislators
Every Texan is represented by one member of the Texas House and one member of the Texas Senate. Both offices take messages from constituents year-round. A message sent now, before a bill is filed, tells the office the issue has support in the district.
Enter your address at Who Represents Me to find your state representative and state senator. Each result links to the member's office page, which lists a phone number and an email form.
Send a short message to each office. Say that you live in the district, that you support allowing psychologists with advanced training in clinical psychopharmacology to prescribe, and, in a sentence or two, why it matters to you. That is enough. If you want to point the office to the data, link to the For Legislators page.
For Physicians
When contacting your legislator, share that you are a physician in the first sentence of your message. Legislators hear from organized psychiatry on this issue and hear far less often from physicians in general practice. The For Physicians page covers the training and the collaborative model.
For Psychologists
Texas RxP is organizing psychologists to be at the Capitol during the 2027 session and to join the association’s lobbyists on visits to member offices. Psychologists who want to take part can contact the RxP Division through the Texas Psychological Association.
Share Your Experience
The Real Stories page carries accounts from patients, families, and clinicians, published with their consent. If you have an experience to share, use the form there.
Stay Informed
Texas RxP will post bill filings, committee hearing dates, and requests for action on the News & Updates page as they occur.
